and others…

I have a list of tunes, or should I say ideas on my Voice Notes that I’m working from that keep me busy with the list. A couple of them are listed here, the ones I’m headed for next. I know I’ve mentioned that before but this is where it’s taking me. Some of it is spontaneous. Well, I guess it all starts that way and winds up recorded to use later. Most of these have been the daily project when everything else is done.

The Tune in A with unresolved 3rd part is something I accidentally stumbled onto that started sounding like Monroe’s “Wheel Hoss” taken someplace else and “Toad In the Road” is a project of tunes written off of Monroe’s “Frog On A Lily Pad” that is in various keys and grooves. “New Joe Clark” is a rewrite of …you guessed it, “Old Joe Clark” except with the phrases shortened and the melody crosses back and forth over the time so that it starts on the downbeats and then you find yourself on the offbeats and back again at the end of every part. I can’t even count out what the time signature is at this point but it’s strangely appealing.

There are more tunes but they are older. I really need to sit down and make a full list and record things so that I don’t forget. I wrote one years ago called “The Avenue of Giants” but damned if I can remember it. Have forgotten a few more. I had a tune written for tenor guitar or mandola called “Lopalong Jeff” but it’s gone too. And another really strange one called the “Two Color Blues”. Poof…gone. Ah well, should keep me from getting bored.

Did I say today how much I enjoy being blessed to be part of a creative community? No? I’m blessed to be part of the creative process. It becomes more important and satisfying as I grow older. Now back to it…

Life is good. MC
