New Day, New Computer

The day finally arrived. All my applications and software was running slower and slower and slower. The “spinning beachball of death” was my constant friend. “What’s going on inside this computer?! Sounds like things grinding together…”. I guess it took me a few weeks to start figuring out what it was I needed. Lots of refurbished computer websites visited, prices considered, options, etc. I wasn’t aware of how long it was dragging on and how much of a nuisance I was being until a few weeks went by and Heidi said something about how much energy had been going into the process. Long story short, a new-looking and acting 27” iMac arrived by UPS delivery. Fortunately the computers are packed very well against damage because the whole side of the box was cracked and when the delivery girl came walking up the steps with it she walked over to the front stoop and just dropped it and said, “There you go” and walked off. Nice. So much for the Christmas spirit.

Yesterday I spent basically most of the 14 hours it estimated to transfer most of the info from one Mac to the other with Migration Assistant. It worked pretty much like a charm except for a bunch of photos that it didn’t know what to do with so it just put them all in a folder by itself so I can figure it out. The only issues really are outdated applications that I use frequently and I have gotten all but one of those updated already so it’s sailing along nicely. I’m hopeful that I will have the rest of it done within a week but I need to talk to somebody at the software developers website and they are probably all on Christmas and COVID schedules right now so good luck. Anyway, almost there. And the new machine is a LOT faster. Stand back, I don’t know how fast this thing is gonna go. No beach ball so far…

Life is good. MC
